When I was first starting to play chess, at around 10 or so, I read something that sparked my interest.

Its kind of a fun fact for chess, and is neat to know for all knowledge levels of chess–and it might win you a bet.

It is actually possible to win at chess (as black), in 2 moves, if your opponent is a fool, and you recognize it:

Again, white must completely cooperate and make these two opening moves–which are very very poor opening moves. Once done, black’s queen can make a simple mate at h4.

Does it ever happen? No.

Is it worth knowing? I dunno, why not lol….you know it now :)

—oh and just FYI, this is called “Fool’s Mate”
