Blogging is Dead

Yes that’s right. Blogging has found its way to everyone interested and its only down hill from here.

How do I know? How can I make such a bold statement?

One simple reason:  I started my blog today.

No I’m not eternally pesimistic or self-doubting. I just understand Roger’s Adoption / Innovation Curve. When my brother Andy Swan first pointed out how he falls into the curve, I immediately knew where I fit in. I’ve taken his image and added myself to it:

That’s right. I am a laggard. No question about it. If its hot, I’m on the sidelines. Once the coolness soaks into my head, I’ll jump on board, usually just as the masses are heading the other way.

Examples:

AAPL: Still going strong. Fear not.
I have not yet bought into the whole AAPL thing lol. While its true, I own an iPod, it is only because my brother bought it for me as a gift. I still run Windows religiously, despite the frequent crashes. I feel comfortable in Windows, and so I shall stay. I’ll let you know when I buy a Mac. Then you need to short AAPL.

RIMM: Still going strong, Fear not.
When I hang out with Andy and Howard I am in awe. They easily communicate more with people who aren’t in their company than people who are. And when I saw what it did to their relaxation time, golf, I swore off crackberries for a while. Yes it would be nice to be in touch at all times, but hey, I have a cell phone. The last thing I need right now is a distraction on the golf course. I’m terrible, but I have fun.

Cell Phones:
All the hype was was the new RAZR phone. Well, as you may know, they’re widely criticized for low durability and poor quality. I think that was decided on a few weeks after I bought mine. When I took it in for repairs the sales guy acted like it was common knowledge. He needs to know how to talk to Laggards better–we just don’t know.

CROCS: Fear Not.
Although I have a pair, I have not adopted them yet. Again, Andy bought these for me as a gift, and I have yet to embrace them. I’ll let you know when they’re going out of style, i.e., when I put them on.

Myspace: On the way down.
It took me a long time to check out myspace. All I heard was how cool it was. Seems like the month I decided to hop on, the reviews turned sour. I don’t use it much now, its too slow and spammy. I think everyone is in, and myspace is headed down.

FireFox: Fear Not.
Seriously Landon? Yes. lol…I still use IE. Why? I don’t know….because I’m used to it. I can be very brand loyal, even when the brand sucks.

Google Docs: Will grow.
I still use MS Office for everything I do. Ya google is free but its less powerful and I’ve already paid for MS Office. I see no reason to switch, and because of that, GOOG is probably a good buy lol.

Wii: The exception that proves the rule
I asked for and received a Wii for Xmas 06. I love it. I was one of the first ones in, and I think this is a long term success story. If its raining, I’m playing golf inside on the Wii.

Blogging: Gotta be done. I’m on!
So we come to blogging. Seems like everybody and their brother (oh wait….lol…I’m the ‘brother’ in that phrase) is blogging these days. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. But that’s the point. I don’t jump in til the hype is over. I don’t know, maybe blogging is here to stay. We’ll see….

In any case, thanks for stopping by my site. Feel free to comment.

Please be patient with my site for now, as I am a n00bie blogger. I’m sure I didn’t set it up right. If you see something, let me know.

Hey, welcome! I’m a noob too. Been doing it for the last 3 weeks. But in the world of bloggers, that probably makes me a near Dinosaur.

Good luck.

I met Michael Landon (Bonanza, Little house on the Prarie, etc.) once out in LA before he died.

Now just try to guess what the “L” stands for in Stephen L. McKay? No, it’s not Landon, but I would swear you guys are twins (are you?)

All the best with the blog, and I will be back. Count on it!

Funny post. Andy started blogging about a nanosecond before you, so he’s quite late to this party too.

Anyway, welcome to the now dead blogosphere.
